Concentration of Force refers to the idea that a military force should concentrate its strength against a single objective or location, rather than dispersing its forces over multiple targets, in order to overwhelm the enemy and achieve victory. This allows the force to achieve maximum impact and achieve a decisive victory.

With the often more limited resources of sports club, Concentration of Force means focusing all available resources (financial, human, and material) on a specific business objective or goal. This allows you to maximize its impact and achieve the desired outcome more efficiently. You can apply this principle by:

  • Focusing on core competencies. Instead of trying to excel in all areas, focus on their core competencies and strengths. By concentrating on what you do best, you can differentiate yourself from your competitors and provide the highest level of value to your customers.

  • Niche marketing. By identifying your niche and concentrating your marketing efforts on that specific target audience, you can tailor your marketing messages and create more effective campaigns that resonate with your target audience. It doesn’t mean that those outside your niche won’t join or support you (ever seen an older person in an ad for Apple, yet this demographic represents a large portion of their sales), it simply means you can achieve returns disproportionate to investment.

  • Engaging strategic partnerships. By forming strategic partnerships with other sports clubs or organisations that share your objectives, you can pool resources and expertise, thus achieving greater impact and influence than you could on your own.

  • Streamlining operations. Streamlining your operations and eliminating inefficiencies by focusing on the most critical aspects of your business and eliminating unnecessary tasks or processes, you become more efficient and effective in achieving your objectives.

An example of putting this principle into action, when seeking to attract new members, it is likely more effective to focus all available resources on one initiative rather than spreading resources thinly across multiple.

Focusing all available resources into the achievement of a specific objective allows the force to achieve maximum impact and achieve a decisive victory.
